While initially effective in maintaining safety, fawning can lead to a loss of self-identity, boundaries, and emotional well-being over time.

Typically rooted in early life experiences, the fawn response develops in environments where emotional needs are consistently ignored or invalidated. This behavior stems from associating people-pleasing with safety, resulting in an automatic desire to accommodate others even after the danger is gone.
